If you Keep on Dancing You’ll Never Grow Old

It was another busy week at the Scheu abode this week. Abby was all about dance, Luke focused on basketball and Matt enjoyed his first finals week. It was back to school and work bright and early on Monday morning. It was very slow going for Ann and the kids – especially Abby who was later than she’s ever been in her life. She burns the candle at both ends, having stayed up until after midnight, working on homework. It was a sad day – the 34 anniversary of John Lennon’s assassination. Luke had basketball practice after school that Memaw ran him to while Abby stayed late to have a light dance practice at school and then performed two routines with the Pirateers before and at halftime of the boys basketball game against Hauser. Hauser is coached by our friend, Coach Nobbe from our youth football team. The girls looked good in their final performance before their first competition. Luke & I had a late dinner while watching MNF as the girls ran to Dixon Studio for jazz class.

The girls again had trouble getting their morning routine finished in a timely manner on Tuesday. This time change has really messed with them. Abby again had Pirateers practice and I hopped on the treadmill before Luke & I watched a couple movies.
It was another cold day in the 30s on humpday. I don’t think it has been out of the 30s yet this week. It was Soup Night at the house for the Homework Club. Abby had Britney over for a big pot of Ann’s potato soup (yum!), that we ate on for several days. Why is it that soup gets better the longer it sits in the fridge?
Ann had a dentist appointment early on Thursday. Although she had a good checkup, cavity-wise, she will need to have some work done soon unfortunately. If that wasn’t bad enough, she was supposed to attend a work Christmas party but never made it. It’s always sad whenever you miss one of those. Abby had her normal Pirateers practice that afternoon and then went on to tap class with Ann later that evening. I talked to Robby as well as Dad that night. Rob & Sharon were keeping warm by doing a couple shots (it was in the 60s…poor things). Dad was much warmer as he and Lynn were in Miami for the night and anticipating embarking on their cruise ship to Punta Cana, which is in the Dominican Republic. They just got back from New Jersey only a short while ago, so they are continuing to keep busy. We have a ton of new social media pictures to share this week: Abby and the Pirateers; Barney and his oldest with grandkids; Kimmy; Barn on vaca with wifey; Karen’s granddaughter; Cathy & Tom on vacation; Sharon & grandson; Jackie on the slopes; Grace and Chad; Brayton; more Kimmy; Columbian Park in the 50s, BK rootbeer mug and Musicland all from Lafayette; my two new favorite stamps – Hermey & Bumble with a Rudolph cancellation; Grace sneaking out of the studio; more Bu & Pirateers; Keith & Rosie; David’s daughter; more Gracie; Barney’s youngest and his 3 grandkids; Rick & Lynn in HI again; some great Lennon quotes; Saturday was the last sequential date we will experience in our lifetime; Kimmy & Steph; Angie (Morgan); Bryan & Angie on the Circle in Indy; more Cathy & Tom; a sweet photo of the Pacific ocean; and a great elf on the shelf scene.

I cost-contained myself again on Friday in order to give one of my guys a few hours. We continue to have a low census at work, but that’s a very normal trend and things will pick up after the new year, just as they always do at this time of the year. Memaw & Gigi picked up Lukey and then they went to Cincy for the weekend. They stayed with Dee & Jamie. Luke ended up going to the Cincinnati Zoo with Dee & Jamie and enjoyed Night at the Zoo. Abby had a really long Pirateers practice. Matt finished up his tests and came home. He went to wrestling practice to help the boys prepare for the Delta Duals this weekend. He came home and went to bed. Meanwhile, Ann went scrapbooking with the girls. I picked up Abby and we went got takeout from Panda Garden. Matt & I watched UFC Fight Night until we fell asleep in the new recliners out in the playroom.
Ann was up at the butt crack of dawn to wake up Abby who met up with her Pirateers teammates for a competition in Lafayette. The rest of us made the trek a few hours met our friend Stacy for lunch at Hunters Pub South. The food was delicious but Matt decided against their famous Flaming Gobbler. Dad & Barb met us at McCutcheon to watch Abby and the Pirateers dance in two competitive dances. Her good friend Cara also had a solo routine earlier in the day. The girls won 3rd place in 2A varsity pom-poms. Unfortunately they did not place in 2A varsity hip-hop. Bu was pretty disappointed afterwards but Grandpa & Grandma made her feel better. Dad & I tailgated a little. Dad got around pretty good with his cane, making it all the way up to the rafters with us. Afterwards we all went to Walt’s Other Pub. The food was really good there as well. Meanwhile, Luke was busy with Uncle Jamie & Aunt Dee. They went to some big Legos presentation called “Bricksmas” or something like that at the Cincinnati Aquarium. Later, they went to Game Works on the Levee for dinner and games. But what Luke really enjoyed was playing midnight basketball with Uncle Jamie. :0)

Deanna & Jamie brought Luke home early on Sunday morning. Luke had a pair of basketball games at South Decatur. First up we played a very game Jac-Cen-Del team. We were missing two of our starters (and Luke’s good friends), Grayson & Brendon. It was a good game but they eventually pulled away down the stretch and beat us by about a dozen points. Luke got to play several minutes and got in to the swing of things once he was out there for a while. Next we faced the host South Decatur. We easily blasted South as Luke got his first start of the year! He scored a couple baskets and got some rebounds. The Pirates easily took this game in a route. We came home to do our weekly household chores and watch some football. The Colts won and clinched a playoff birth. Later I met up with Bryan at his Randall building where he had us do a consult with a personal trainer. We did a small workout but it was enough to make my knee swell up. I really don’t think this is what I want at this point in my life. The Cowboys were matched up with the Eagles for a rematch of the Thanksgiving Day game. The outcome was better this time out as the Cowboys won by a couple TD’s!
