And I’d Come Running…

Welcome back to another edition of the Scheu Family Blog. It is getting light so early now that we don’t even have to turn on the lights to let the dogs out in the morning. In addition it is staying light later and later each day, allowing us to do much more after work/school. It was a gorgeous week in south-central Indiana with temps in the 80s all week. It was a lighter week for Luke but a bigger one for Bu. Matt enjoyed a week of no school or work. And I reached another milestone in my recovery.
Monday was a sign of things to come as temps soared from the upper 50s in the morning all the way to the 80s by late afternoon. Matt worked out at the high school with his Devin. Abby attended day one of Pirateers try-outs. She decided to try out for the team only after the decision had been made for the team to not attend competitions because not all the girls took it as seriously as Abby. Afterwards she had dance practice for her jazz ensemble at Dixon and the team had pictures. Luke had ISTEP testing all day so he had the night off to relax and play video games. I got back on the treadmill as I continued to prep for a 5K this coming weekend with Bu. Matt has also decided to join us this week. Abby brought home some really cool artwork that she created. It actually spells out DANCE. She ended up going out with a friend and got home late. We noticed that both dogs were two-toned that evening. Lola had obviously rolled in some cut grass and now was white with large green polka dots on her back. And poor Molly is starting to go grey as her lovely black coat is starting to go salt & pepper.
Tuesday was Election Day. Unfortunately there were no local primary races so Ann & I didn’t even vote. I think it was likely the first time we hadn’t voted in probably two decades. Ann & I both had very long days at work as the moon went continued to cycle in to its full stage. It left an obvious impact on both of our clientele. Luke again had math ISTEP testing. Matt worked out at the high school with his buddies again. It was day-two of Pirateers tryouts for Abby and her friends, going out afterwards to El Reparo for dinner, getting home just after dark. We installed A/Cs in Mom & Gigi’s house and I hopped back on the treadmill. Ann made a great dinner again (it’s nice to have Matt home!). Luke pitched to me in the back lot (we limited his pitch count to 70). Matt helped me install the A/C’s at the house because it was still in the 80s at 7:30 at night. Devin came over to hang out with Matt & Abby (who was supposedly studying – ya right!) and played Wii.
We enjoyed the hottest day of the year on Wednesday. Luke had his final math ISTEAP test today. Abby attended her final night of Pirateers tryouts. Drew came home with Luke and we ran the boys out to their baseball practice. My workout consisted of mowing, trimming, blowing and re-fertilizing the front yard. A huge thank you to Bryan for the amazing chemical fertilizer – it worked as advertised! I wanted to do more but ran out of light…and energy – I was exhausted from the heat. Matt had Colten over for the night and of course Abby had to hangout with the boys. We have lots of new social media pictures to share this week: Abby & I hanging out at ball games and the big fight; Matt & Bu napping in the family room; the Owenses; Uncle Dan; Dan’s legacy releasing balloons in his memory; Cathy & Tom celebrated an anniversary; Tyson & his prom date; Bethany announced her engagement; the Viper we saw at the bball tourney last weekend; Jeff & his pole position; the big Boiler draft pick for Dallas; one of our favorite sayings; Abby & the Pirateers; Abby and dance coach; Monica; Phi Delt artwork; Dallas draft picks; Calvin & Hobbes panels; Luke & Devin; Bryan & I in his basement last weekend; Grace and her new band; more Jeff; my favorite professor in college recently got a more Big D draft picks; more Calvin; Kathy & Jake; Angie; my childhood idols; WJAA on location; Dad & Aunt Sharon chillin’ at the Pebble; Lynz working out; Angie and kids/mom; and a great shot of the old Columbian Park.

Another day and another spike in the thermometer as we enjoyed temps back in the 80s. I was so mad today. It was all over the newspapers, so I shouldn’t have been so surprised when I received the bill at work. Vectren screwed up all the gas bills over the winter and it affected businesses and residences in both Columbus and Greensburg. Their 3rd party meter readers got it wrong and now they want everyone to pay-up…and it is a good chunk of change. Thankfully we don’t have gas at the house but at work I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw we had an $11K bill!! Abby got the news early in the day that she had made the Pirateers again! Way to go, Bu!! Luke was still ISTEP-ing at school. Abby made brownies for her teacher and took them in today (brown-noser!). She had tap practice and pictures at Dixon. Bu’s Show Stopper dance videos finally came in the mail. I loved finally seeing the only dance of hers that I didn’t attend live. Luke helped me mow the backyard and then he threw 70 pitches to me in the back lot again. Afterwards, I sprayed for weeds in the backyard until it was dark.
Another gorgeous day was in store for us on Friday. You gotta love it when it is in the 80s with no humidity. Abby went in early to school to meet with a teacher before a big test today. Luke endured his last day of ISTEP testing. Ann went scrapbooking at Mrs. B’s. Abby was supposed to go out to El Reparo with Megan but they had a flat tire and never made it. Luke, Bu & I played wiffleball with a couple neighborhood kids in the back lot – Luke had 5 or 6 over-the-fence home runs! Matt went out with his buddies again. Luke & I enjoyed pizza and a movie on the couch while Bu ended up falling asleep out in the family room.
We were up early on Saturday for a 5K charity run. It was a busy day around town as there were a couple of 5K runs, a classic car show, free music up on the square and a Gold Wing convention. Abby & I signed up to participate in a DCMH-sponsored “Run 4 Ur Mom” event. Matt was out a little too late last night/this morning and had trouble getting up today. So Luke volunteered to take his place and did amazingly well. He finished 6th overall of about 100 entrants (much smaller than we had anticipated) and obviously 1st in his age class with a time of 28’ flat! Way to go, little buddy! Abby and I jogged for a little bit but mostly walked and crossed the line at 56:31. Afterwards Abby went to dance revue practice for another two hours. Ann went scrapbooking again with Shawna at Mrs. B’s. Luke & I ran errands and then the kids & I went out to eat at El Reparo. We went shopping for flowers for Ann’s Mother’s Day present, grabbed ice cream and then spent about an hour planting them around the light pole as we have for several years now. Afterwards we showered and took naps. Later, Abby & Luke went over to the Dance’s to play wiffleball with Megan & Alex and Matt went out for the evening with Colten & Devin. When Luke & Bu came home, Luke ate dinner and disappeared in to his room to play on his Xbox and Bu had Megan over to hang out and later had fun with face paint and Megan did some fire pit dance and later the girls went cruising with Mallory until late.

We finally got to sleep in on Sunday, which was Mother’s Day. We all wished we were in Treasure Island, enjoying time at the Sand Pebble with our friends and family. Rob & Sharon really wanted us to come, but it just wasn’t in the cards this year. Hopefully we will make it down there for Week 19 next year. We were glad to see that Aunt Sharon was able to make it down to hang out with Dad for the week. We did our weekly household chores and Ann had Mom & Sandy over for lunch where she made Mom O’s favorite, homemade spaghetti and a very yummy spasagnia, along with garlic toast, salad and a couple desserts…yum!! Afterwards Luke trimmed the backyard, Abby did the dishes and Ann & Matt watched X-files on Netflix and we all took naps and relished our rare day off.
