When you Comin’ Home, Dad

The kids enjoyed their first week of Fall Break. Although Abby’s dance went on as normal, most of Luke’s sports were cancelled. Matt came home for half a day and Dad B came to visit. Ann continues to limp around the house as her knee continues to heal and I continue to struggle with my diet. All in all, it was a great week that really flew by for us. It was a warmer week, compared with the last several days. We only had to close up the house a couple times to turn on the air but otherwise enjoyed another week of having the house open. Hello again and welcome to this week’s edition of the Scheu Family Blog.
The kids kicked off their first week of Fall Break on Monday morning with a good day of cleaning the house. Abby had Pirateers practice at the high school. Luke had football practice at North Park. We only had six boys show up and we may have to forfeit this weekend’s game due to all but a handful leaving for vacation this week. Later, Abby had jazz class at Dixon Dance.
Ann had her follow-up doctor appointment with Guse on Tuesday. He is pleased with her progress and released her to drive. Luke’s football practice was cancelled due to coaches and players being out of town, so he ended up staying the night at Oakley’s house. I mowed the front yard on a very warm day since the neighbors had mowed sometime earlier in the day. Abby & I got caught up on our Simpsons episodes and although there were no extra kids over, it was still Soup Night! Ann made a big pot of her delicious chicken tortilla soup – yum. We have lots of new social media pictures to share this week: Memaw at Keith & Rosie’s house; Katie & Jake at the Colts game; Cathy & Aunt Judy; Haley & Ryan; Abby and friends; Jeff’s last Dover race; Calvin & Hobbes Sunday panel; Grace played the Radio City Music Hall; Bu and BFFs; AHS finally returned; cool Meme; cool Purdue landscaping; Luke’s GF; Kim & Lynz in WDW; Gracie coming to Indy soon; Bu & Noah; Aunt June and girls; Dad & Lynn; Jack; pineapple cart; Michelle & Phil’s view this week; Molly crashed on the couch; TWD is back; Jeff’s paint scheme this weekend in Charlotte; a new soundboard recording of a Zep show has surfaced!; Kathy & fam in WDW; some classic games that we still have in the game closet; more WDW fun for the girls; and today’s Calvin & Hobbes panel.

Luke & I mowed and trimmed the backyard after work on Wednesday. He and I also worked on my mower and figured out we had a bad plug, so we grabbed a new one and got it working again. Afterward, we installed a new network printer at Gma & Gigi’s house. They had gotten back from New York earlier in the day. Later, Noah came over and joined Abby and I as we watched the season premier of one of our favorite shows – American Horror Story.
Ann took the day off on Thursday so that she could get a head start on prepping the house for Dad & Lynn’s visit. Abby had Pirateers practice. Luke’s football practice was again cancelled due to lack of coaches and players. Abby had jazz class. Ann & I went to Bryan & Angie’s house for a big Colts game party. They had a huge screen and projector set up. The inflatable screen was 22 feet wide and 17 feet tall and the projected area was 20 x 11’ and was high def. It was an amazing way to watch a game. We had great weather and there were probably a hundred people over cheering the Colts on to a victory over the Texans. It was a good game that went right down to the wire. I helped Bryan tear down because he and the family were headed down to Destin the next day.
Ann & I had the day off on Friday as we welcomed Dad & Lynn in from New Jersey for a few days. We went to ElRep for lunch and had fun catching up with them. Bryan & I didn’t make the trip to East Central since Dad was in town and Bryan was not, but Ann and Bu endured the chilly temps to support Noah and the Pirates. We had Pizza King delivered for dinner. Abby, Kama & Ann blew up like 200 balloons with helium and filled them in Noah’s truck cab to surprise him for his birthday (he turned 18 today). She also got him a nice shirt and a cool poster with candy. The girls took Kama with them to the game and got back pretty late that night. Noah came over for a while. Charlie also travelled with Dad to see us. He and Molly have become good friends and have hung out together and went on a couple walks together. However, the same cannot be said for Lola. Lola was mean and downright bitchy towards Charlie, growling, barking and even biting the poor little guy. So we ended up keeping Lola outside or pinned up in the playroom most of the weekend since she refused to play nice with others. She has gotten bad the last several months, which is troubling. We don’t understand why she can’t be more laid back like Molly…

Saturday’s game with Luke and the sixth graders vs. South Dearborn was indeed cancelled due to lack of coaches and players. Who knows, we may be done for the year. This was the final game of the regular season for us. With the forfeit, we end league play with a 1-6 record. We now need to start prepping for the tourney. However we may not play again this year as we learned the 5th graders that we had been depending upon to fill out our team will be playing at the same time as us next week in Franklin County. The girls went shopping and the boys watched college football. Matt was home to see Papaw Bryan. Noah came over and we ended up getting a nice batch of family pictures out in the backyard. Afterwards we all went out to dinner at BWR. Matt went back to school, Bu & Noah went out on the town and Luke played Yahtzee with the old folks. Ann was a wonderful bartender, making homemade frozen margaritas all night for us. We went through three bottles of Patron and a bottle of Triple Sec. They went down smooth and easy. We laughed and laughed all night in the kitchen. What a great night. Dad & I didn’t get to bed until just before dawn! We had a great talk and we’re so happy they came to see us. It was such a fun night; we need to do this more often…

Obviously we slept in till noon on Sunday. It was a beautiful day but we spent the majority of it on the couches for some reason. Ann was a trooper and made biscuits and gravy for brunch and cooked chicken on the grill for dinner. She took such good care of us this whole weekend. We took naps on and off throughout the day as we watched some really good football games. The Cowboys looked terrible but Peyton’s Ponies won again to remain undefeated. Luke’s basketball practice was cancelled so he played outside all afternoon and into the evening with Oakley and Alex. He ended up staying the night at the Dances. Noah and Megan both came over to spend the evening with Abby. They played out in the family room for hours, playing Guitar Hero and chatting with Ann. Later that night was the return of another of our favorite shows – The Walking Dead. Don’t get me wrong, we enjoyed the prequel over the past couple months, but nothing compares to the original. The kids, Ann, Lynn & I all gathered around the big screen to watch the season six premier. It was so quiet without Luke. Dad was the other one absent. He had gone to bed earlier so he could continue to recuperate after last night’s epic evening. It was a very relaxing evening and great way to end yet another fun week here at the Scheu abode.
Next up is our Waybac section which continues to feature the first six photo albums of Ann & I starting our family and includes a couple new pictures of Mom. We lead off with Matt visiting Memaw & Gigi with Aunt Dee & Uncle Chad in July 1996; then on to bath time for Matt, Ann visiting with Jenny and then Chris coming to see Matt all the way from New Hampshire – all in January 1997; next we have Ann and Matt in our first Greensburg home in August 1997; then Christmas fun with the Owens family in our home in December 1997; Matt with Gma & Gigi at the Independence Day parade in downtown East Aurora, NY while visiting Keith & Rosie in July 1998; and finally some great pictures of Matt with his Grandmas and Grandpas at Christmas in December 1998.

There were several quotable moments for Lukey this weekend but none that I remembered to write down. 
Our final section is our video segment, which seems to be the culprit for several iOS users having difficulty reading the blog page. As such, I will cut the number of videos down – starting with next week’s entry. I seem to be the only one watching/listening to them anyhow. This week we have no new family home movies to share but a bunch from around the internet.

And that does it for this week’s entry of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks as always for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya Momma.
Later, Scheu
