Ooh, Sit Down…I’m Coming Out…

We had another fast week, here at the Scheu abode. It rained so much this week that the already-saturated ground again flooded. It was a short work-week as the kids had procedures done. But at least it made for a nice, long weekend. The Boilers made a run in the Big Ten tourney, several celebrities passed away, Abby enjoyed her first week of driving (and we did too!) and Ann cleaned her office (gasp). With all the rain and the warmer temps, the grass is starting to green, the trees are beginning to bud and the birds are flying north again. Hello; and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
Abby and Luke were both excited on Monday morning as Bu drove them to school for the first time. Luke had track practice after school. Abby had jazz class. Ann worked late and I walked the People Trail to my buddy Dennis’ new house. We all got home late that night. Peyton Manning retired from the NFL and the Boilers got the #4 seed in the Big Ten tourney. When Ann cleaned out her office today, she found some great pictures from a calendar that Dee made as well as some artwork from Luke. I think the pictures are from about 2005 and the artwork around 2008-ish.

Abby went in to school early on Tuesday morning for Student Council. Luke again had track practice after school and I walked the PT after work. It should’ve been Soup Night for the Homework Club but Britney made the varsity softball team so we won’t see her again for a while. Congrats to her! Instead we had baked potato night – and Abby had Jaden & Kama over for dinner and then hang out in the family room before she ran them home, which I must admit is nice…
On Wednesday, the rain began. It rained all day and then all night. Thankfully it was only sprinkling after work and I was able to walk the People Trail through the rain. Luke had track practice again and has decided to do sprints and long jump – just like his old man did back in the day. Later, Abby worked at Dixon Dance.
It was still raining on Thursday and again continued all day long. We had some low-level flooding and Luke made it back to track practice, despite not wanting to go. He did not like practicing in the rain the day before because his shoes got really soggy…but he toughed it out through the rain and learned a lesson about dedication. Abby went to Dixon after school to learn a new dance and then went tanning to prep for her upcoming dance competitions. Later she went out with friends to ElRep and then met up with us at the house where Matt had returned from school to start his Spring Break. Ann made chicken fettuccini alfredo for dinner, since it was the last real meal the kids would enjoy for a few days due to their oral surgeries. Later, the girls returned to DDS for Abby’s tap class. Here are a few of the sites from my walks this week.

Friday was Luke’s last day of school before starting Spring Break. Matt and Abby were off school to have their wisdom teeth extracted. Ann and I took off to be with them. We drove separately as the kids needed to come home right away to rest after their appointments. The girls were up first and poor Abby had all four teeth pulled. She was pretty sore afterwards and pretty out of it too. Matt had three teeth removed since he had already had one extracted previously. He fared much better than poor Bu. I got in my walk while he was under the knife. It was a much nicer day and the sun finally returned. Memaw brought Luke home and he played with Alex for a couple hours outside. Abby’s friend and Pirateer teammate, Cara, visited her to bring her ice cream which was very sweet. The poor thing locked her keys in the car and had to have her Mom come by to unlock it. Ann went scrapbooking and the kids and I watched IU lose and then Purdue win in their opening games of the Big 10 tourney that was held up in Indy at the Fieldhouse. Afterwards, the kids got to pick comfort movies to watch – Abby chose The Lion King while Matt’s was pick was Stargate. We hadn’t seen these two classics and many years. Later, Abby’s gang all came over to support her – Brit, Megan and all three of the boyfriends.

We slept in on Saturday morning. It was overcast and eventually rained – I know, big surprise right? We did our weekly household chores and the kids recouped. Luke played outside for a while with the neighborhood friends. We watched the Boilers win again in the Big 10 tourney to move on to the championship game tomorrow! Abby had Cody and then Jaden over to visit as her jaws really started to swell. She said wisdom teeth suck and I concur. I remember it all too well myself. We all took naps throughout the day and Matt went out late to go hang out with his buddies.
We “sprang ahead” overnight and lost an hour for our trouble. I hate this time of year because my body always takes so long to adjust and really never does feel normal until the fall. We got up really late because of the time change. It rained again all night and would rain off and on again until late afternoon when it finally blew over and it turned in to a gorgeous evening. It was perfect for taking it easy. We napped, watched movies, played on our electronics and watched sports (college basketball & racing). The Boilers came up just a couple buckets short of winning the Big 10 tourney and ended up a #5 seed in the East bracket of the big dance and will play next Thursday. The kids hung around all day and Abby had Jaden and Kama over again for dinner as Ann made a huge pot of potato soup. Today was a very relaxing way to end the week… We have lots of new social media pictures this week: the Smith grandchildren; Abby by herself and with her crew; Aunt Sharon; Cathy; after winning Sectionals, the Pirates bball team lost in the 1st round of Regionals this weekend; Bailey and her North Decatur boys’ bball team also won Sectionals and then lost first round of Regionals this weekend; the Boilers had a hell of a run in the Big Ten tourney this weekend; Peyton’s retirement got a lot of attention around the Indy area; former First-Lady, Nancy Regan passed away this week; Calvin & Hobbes panels; Ann’s comment on our full house; Haley & son; more Bu; more Boilers; Katie & friend; Chris at a home show; Sir George Martin (best known as the 5th Beatle) passed away this week; keyboardist virtuoso Keith Emerson (ELP) passed away; and I didn’t realize that two other actors had passed away: George Gaynes (Commandant of Police Academy movies and on TV in Punky Brewster among many, many other things) and George Kennedy (Cool Hand Luke, the Airplane movies, the Naked Gun movies and the Dallas TV show– among many, many other acting roles).

Our final section, as always, is our video section which includes one new family movie and several from around the internet this week.

And that does it for this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya Mom.
Later, Scheu
