Just Another Piece…Another Piece of (Me)

Another week has sped past us, here at the Scheu abode. Although it went fast in retrospect, it still seemed like a long week while we were in it. We started off chilly and warmed nicely as the week progressed. Luke continued to split time between track and baseball. Abby focused her time on dance and participated in her final competition of the year. Matt continued to study up at U Indy. And Ann had more body parts removed, but that wasn’t the worst of her pain…just how much can one person have taken out and still function normally anyhow?? Hello and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
Everyone struggled to get up and going on Monday morning… Abby had Pirateers then went on to jazz class. Luke’s first track meet was unfortunately cancelled due to the excessive rainfall that day. In fact, we had some local flooding in the area those first few days of the week. The rain kept me from walking as well that evening. I had planned on getting on the treadmill but instead I had dinner and promptly fell asleep.
Tuesday was a long day for both Ann & I. I was able to get on the People Train and was relatively pain-free during the walk, despite it being a little chilly. Abby went out with her friends after school. Luke had track practice then he & I went on to baseball practice where we had a good turnout – about 12 kids! Hell; that’s more than we had at any of our football practices last year!! Here are the pictures from last weekend’s dance competition at Star Systems in Indy:

We saw the kids off to school on Wednesday morning but Ann & I were off work for Ann’s surgery. In the late morning we made our way over to CRH where she had her thyroid removed. The surgeon said the procedure couldn’t have gone any better. She was pretty sore afterwards and spent the night at the hospital. Mom & Gigi, Dee & Jamie and Amy joined us, as did Abby & Britney. Ann’s docs popped in a couple times to check on her and Judy & the girls from her work also stopped in with a very nice “bouquet” of edible goodies and gift cards to local restaurants. It was very, very sweet of them all. Abby missed work at DDS as Ann’s surgery ran late. Luke hurt his leg at track and further injured it at baseball practice later that night. …And a big thanks to both Dee and Bryan for helping us out with transporting Luke.
The kids returned to school on Thursday morning and I met up with Ann at the hospital. They released Ann before noon, which thrilled her. Luke & I moved the recliner in to the living room for her to rest and sleep in for the next few days. Although she had a drain tube in her neck, which was uncomfortable, it was her knee that was again starting to give her trouble. She was unable to neither move her leg very well nor get it comfortable. She sent Luke & I to grab takeout from Chili’s for dinner. Abby had Pirateers then went on to tap class. Luke did not travel to his track meet that night in order to rest his leg. We picked up some compression sleeves to combat what we suspect is shin splints that he’s experiencing. We have a few social media pictures to share this week: the siblings on National Siblings Day; Abby & her tap group at their first competition last week; Abby & her Pirateer friends; Gracie; Aunt Sally; my Timm cousins; Dad B w/ Uncle Vird & Aunt Shar; a couple of Katie; Barney & Steph’s kids; Aunt Judy & Cathy with fam; Aunt Sharon w/ granddaughters; and my best buddy, Bryan after oral surgery.

Friday was a pretty day. We opened up the house and turned off the heat. Ann & I slept in while the kids got up for school. Later, Mom & Gigi took Ann to her follow-up appointment to have the tube removed from her neck. The doctor did not allow her to attend Abby’s final dance competition, due to being so far away. She was heartbroken and very upset. So, grudgingly, Abby & I went without her to ShowStopper dance competition in downtown Cincy. It was held in the convention center, which is a first for us. All previous competitions have been held at high schools, so it was different. I spoke with the director of the event, who allowed me to Skype with Ann during Abby’s routines, which was very cool of her. Afterward, I again approached her and thanked her once again for allowing Ann to “see” Bu dance live. First up, Abby and her jazz trio did awesome performance to Shawty Got Loose. They earned a 1st place gold and earned 1st place overall in their division!! After awards and a quick break she was back up on the stage with her small tap group, performing to Dear Future Husband. These girls have been doing it for a long time and it showed as they burned it up, earning a 1st place platinum award as well as another overall 1st place in their division! Way to go, Bu!! Afterwards we stopped at Steak ‘n Steak for dinner on the way home and didn’t get back until about 2 in the morning. Meanwhile, Luke went home after school with his buddy Tyler and spent the night at his house. Big thanks to Amy, who came over and “babysat” Ann till Bu & I got home.  Ann said they laughed and laughed all night…
Saturday was another gorgeous day, getting all the way up to 80 degrees! Luke came home from Tyler’s house early so we could attend baseball practice. Unfortunately we had a disappointing turnout of only six boys. Afterwards, Luke & I went to the YMCA as the batting cages opened up this weekend. We got our tokens but then decided to go pick up a new bat real quick…only to find that Hibbett’s didn’t have squat. We came home and then he and Abby drove to Columbus to get haircuts with Jami at Innovations and find a new bat at MC Sports (same place he got his big barrel last year). However they too had nada, as far as bats in his size in stock. Luke & I worked out in the yard after lunch, finally getting the grass mowed. Man, do we have a ton of weeds again this year – maybe I hate them so much because they are purple and yellow (Vikings colors)…perhaps if they were blue & white I wouldn’t have such strong negative feelings about them??  After we got cleaned up, I ran Luke and Drew out to the movies to watch Batman vs. Superman and later Drew spent the night. Abby had Baker over for an impromptu KFC & Pizza King dinner and then she hung out with him, Damon & their SD friends for a while before coming home with another headache (her 2nd or 3rd in the last week). Baker turned me on to a website for bats and we found a couple of great ones on sale that we couldn’t refuse. Mom & Gigi came over to check on Ann, who did a good job of staying down and resting today. The boys did a great job of being calm and keeping quiet so Ann could rest that night, surprising everyone that knows them…

We enjoyed sleeping-in on Sunday morning. The boys went out walking and riding bikes in the neighborhood for a couple hours. Mom & Sandy brought over a huge lunch and Ann finally ate a good meal. Next we went over to Dee & Jamie’s house for Jamie’s birthday party. We sang and had cake & ice cream. Dee made a delicious chocolate cake and we brought home a big slice for Ms. Ann, who couldn’t attend. We came home and did our weekly household chores. Later, Abby took the truck out and ended up bringing Britney over to hang out for a while and then went out to get applications for a summer job. Eventually she met up with Kama, Baker & Damon. Ann’s voice returned but her cough remained today. She did a good job of staying down and resting. She wanted to attend the Colts cheerleader tryouts where Greensburg alum and DDS alum/teacher Kyla had made it to the final round of tryouts, along with 50 others. This was her forth and final year of trying out. Ann was able to watch her live on the web and was so excited for her when it was announced that she had finally made it! We look forward to seeing her this year on the sidelines of Lucas Oil Stadium! Abby looks up to her and this will be a big boost in her confidence as well, as she teaches Abby’s class and Abby helps her teach other classes at times. Congrats to Kyla!
Next up is our Waybac section which again includes both our early family photo albums as well as goodies culled from Mom O’s move a few weeks ago. We lead off this time with Ann in her dancing heyday at Dixon Dance, circa 1980; then Mom, Gigi & Chad in Greensburg, circa 1994; next we head to Lafayette in May of 1996 for a visit to Dad & Barb’s cabin…looks like Granny, Aunt Sue, Jackie, Zack & Jazmin are with us as well; then on to Rossville in November 1996 to visit Mom & Dad; next we head to Greensburg where we find Matt with his tools, eating with Brayton, playing on the back porch and even hanging with Gma & Sandy in May 1997; next we fast-forward to December 1997 for a few pix of our small family; then back to Rossville but this time we get to see Mom & Dad’s new house up on the hill in May 1998; then Ann & Matt decorating our new (man, we loved that tree) Christmas tree in December 1998; Matt in March 1999; Matt & Bu in December 2000; Grace’s adoption in 2000; Gracie in 2001; Megan in October 2003; Grace in 2003 & 2004; Megan in 2004 and our lovely Bu in April 2004.

We were hoping to have videos of Abby’s two dance routines from this weekend, but they do them online now and they are not due to be posted on their website until the end of next week. So we will have those for you next time, meaning we only have the one short home movie to share this week and a few from around the internet. We will also have a TON of photos next week from this week’s dance competition at Show Stopper. Ann & I haven’t even seen them, but Abby said they are pretty good…

And that does it for this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya Mom.
Later, Scheu
