Mother, Should I Run for President?

We had all the presidential hopefuls in the state this week as the campaigns begin to wind down to the party conventions. It was a rainy week but didn’t interfere too much with our schedule. We spent another Week 19 in Indiana and longed to be with our family and friends at the Sand Pebble. We celebrated Mother’s Day with Ann and I spoke with both Dads and Barb but that only made me miss Mom that much more. Ann & I both continued to mend. Matt came home. Abby continued to work hard in school and dance and spend a lot of time with friends. And Luke wrapped up track and turned his focus solely on baseball. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
Everyone headed back to work / school on Monday morning. It was an overcast day with occasional rain. Ann worked a half day. I had a doctor appointment for my back and was given the all-clear and told to continue with my stretches. I saw Jami for a haircut and then walked the IUPUC campus after work. Luke had track practice and then we got him a new bat from Dick’s so we went to cages at the YMCA that evening. We had to get a smaller-barrel bat because the league ruled his other new bats were illegal until next year. Abby went out with friends after school then picked up Ann and went to jazz class at Dixon.
Tuesday was Election Day. It was still rainy that morning but gave way to cloudy afternoon. Ann again worked a half day and I had a cardiologist appointment. It was great and although we can’t explain my chest pain, we can at least say it isn’t a heart issue. So told me to be good and she’d see me in a year. Abby went out with Kama and their SD friends to the annual county track meet to watch their good friends Shelby and Damon. Shelby won all her events and her 4 x 800 team broke the county record! Luke had his final track meet vs. Rushville & North Decatur. He participated in two events: high jump (JV) got 2nd place and 100 yard dash (JV) got 3rd place. Unfortunately, someone stole his ribbons! I guess theft is pretty bad at the junior high school. Afterwards he went with Drew to the ball diamonds to work on pitching. Gma joined Ann & I on a chilly afternoon to watch his final meet of the year. Gigi worked the returns at the courthouse and Abby & I took her the traditional Polar Pop. Later we heard the news that Bernie Sanders had won the Democratic vote and Donald Trump won the GOP nod. Indiana is normally not a big deal in the voting process, but this year was different and the national spotlight and all the candidates made stops in the state, including Ted Cruz in Columbus…who then announced that he was suspending his campaign later that night. Abby and her friends went to ElRep for dinner.

Ann worked a half day in Greensburg in Wednesday. It again rained on and off and was noticeably cooler. I walked the People Trail after work. Abby worked at DDS then had a late homework session with Cody at BK and then back home in the family room. Luke had his final track practice of the year and then went with me to baseball practice at North Park. Ann & Shawna had an After-Prom meeting then went out to get prizes. Today was May the 4th Be With You Day. :0)
Thursday was another half day for Ann and then drove up to U Indy to move Matt home from college. Matt finished his finals and then wrote his last paper from home that night. Although he is home for the summer, he will be taking a spring class for the next month but will commute from home. Abby went out to a fancy French dinner with her class that night. I walked after work and then met Ann & the kids at ElRep to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with margaritas & dinner. Abby came away with some swag and then the girls went to Dixon Dance Studio for tap class. Here are some recent sights: Luke at the Y; Gigi & Bu in the courthouse; Ann’s flowers; Cinco de Mayo; I voted; views from the People Trail; Luke trying out After-Prom fun; the kids & I signed up for our 4th 5K walk/run (next month); Abby’s French dinner; and Matt leaving school for the last time as a sophomore.

Friday was a gorgeous day. Ann was off work to prep the Fieldhouse for After-Prom with Shawna and a slew of helpers. Matt was also off to help her. Even Luke ended up out there as well, running around with one of his buddies. I walked the People Trail to the airport after work then Matt & I helped do some heavy lifting for Ann and took the truck to pick up a set of stairs from the dance studio – big thanks to Laurie for coming through in the clutch for us! Abby had her co-captain Mary over to choreograph a Pirateers dance. Those two met up with the boys & I at Pizza King for dinner while Ann worked late in to the evening. Matt, Luke & I watched the NBA game. Then Matt went out to hang with his buddies and Bu had Jayden over to watch movies until late that night. We have some great social media pictures to share this week: Abby and friends; 100th running of the Indy 500; the Cowboys draft picks; Kathy; Heaven’s Gate; Bu & friends; Seth; 2nd anniversary of Uncle Dan’s passing; Aunt Sharon headed to Week 19; a beautiful shot of the Twin Towers; and a couple more funnies.

Saturday marked the beginning of Week 19. It brought back several memories and the kids and I exchanged some of our favorite stories from the Sand Pebble. We sure are missing it this year. Luke & I were up early for baseball practice at the Gecom field then ran errands & grabbed lunch at McDonald’s. Ann spent the day with Shawna to complete last-minute setup at the Fieldhouse. Luke & I mowed in the rain then Bu went with us to get ice cream from the Pineapple Whip trailer in the Topps parking lot. Jayden came over but not to pick up Abby for Prom. They decided to not go this year for some reason. So we instead all took turns napping on the couches. Matt went bike riding around town for a couple hours. Bu & Jayden headed out to After-Prom and were up all night. She finally came home about 9 am. Ann got home sometime after 4 am. They both napped on and off the next day.
Sunday was Mother’s Day. The girls eventually came home from After-Prom. We slept in and did our weekly household chores all day. The kids & I went to Rural King to pick out our traditional gift of flowers to plant out in the front yard. Ann made a big spaghetti lunch & had Mom, Gigi, Dee & Jamie over. After naps, we moved a bunch of stuff out of the Fieldhouse for Ann, watched a couple movies and took Ann out to Wings & Rings for dinner. It was a nice way to wrap up a very busy day and rest our weary bodies.

And finally we have our video section which includes one new family home movie and several from around the internet this week.

And that does it for this episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this week and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya Mom. Happy Mother’s Day.
Later, Scheu
