But its Hard to Describe…How I’m Missin’ You

I didn’t realize how much I would miss my little Bu this week, but for the four days she was away – it felt like two weeks! I’m not sure what I’m going to do in two more short years. The same could be said for Dad…we knew that it had been a while since we saw he & Lynn, but we didn’t realize how much we missed him till we had him back in our life again…even if for just the weekend. The few days he was here absolutely flew by for us. It was hot and humid outside most of the week with a few storms sprinkled in. The bugs were bad – especially the sweat bees, flies & moths. The cicadas were noisy, it took longer to get light in the morning and was noticeably getting darker earlier and earlier as the week progressed. And the geese were getting braver out at the park, walking right out in front of cars as we passed through. Matt worked all week. With Abby gone to dance camp, she didn’t do any soccer nor work all week. Luke focused on football and we got notification that fall basketball was starting up as well. Ann’s knees felt better than they had in weeks…most of the time…and I continued to exercise as often as possible but found out that I won’t be able to participate in the next 5K due to the kids’ sporting events. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
Abby was off to Pirateers dance camp at Great Wolf Lodge in Cincinnati, early on Monday morning. It is located right by King’s Island. Luke had football practice and Matt had to work. Ann went in late after dropping off Abby and ended up working late as well. I dropped off Luke at football and then walked for about an hour around town before coming back and watching the last hour of practice from the truck, across the creek. I tried to get Bryan to join me, but he was busy catching up at work after returning from his European trip. Afterward I took Lukey to Hibbett’s and got him new cleats, slides and a backpack for school. He was happy as a clam. Next, we met up with Matt at ElRep for dinner before running to the store for Ann and then coming back and cooling off in the A/C. It was so hot today…and what a long day. Here are pictures of Abs & Baker at a concert, up at Deer Creek as well as Miles’ welcome home party – both from last weekend.

Tuesday saw day two at camp for Abby. It was a stormy day that brought flash flooding from the downpours. We got approximately 3-5 inches in our area. Luke had a cooler football practice that evening but it was still humid. Ann had another long day at work. I walked the 5K path from the park to Matt’s work and back and Matt enjoyed a rare day off from work. As promised, here are pictures from Gigi’s birthday last weekend and a couple of our friends, Michelle & Philip.

Luke had the night off from football on Wednesday. Matt worked at the old folks home. I discovered another new trail to walk after work. Abby was still at dance camp in Cincy and boy was it quiet around the house. She earned the All-American Award at camp – way to go, Bu!! We are so proud of her. With her earning this level of achievement, she is eligible to tryout for the NDA (National Dance Alliance) team that performs in major parades around the world! Wow!!
Thursday was Abby’s last day of camp – Ann & her friend Kristie (mom of Abby’s co-captain on the dance team) drove over to see the girls’ performances and bring them home. Luke was back to football practice but the HS scrimmage they had planned to attend afterwards was cancelled due to a player passing away yesterday – very sad; our hearts go out to his family. …And it’s official – it will be Trump vs. Clinton for the presidency. It was a first for our country, finally having the first female nominee by one of the major parties.

Ann & I took Friday off to prepare the house for Dad & Lynn. We snuck off to breakfast at Stories while the kids were still sleeping. They’ll probably be mad when they read that! Matt went in to work. Poor Abby slept most of day, exhausted from her week of dancing. I mowed the lawn while Luke & Ann cleaned the house. Dad & Lynn drove up from Florida, stopping in Tennessee last night. They were making great time until they hit Lexington when they ran into stopped traffic on the highway due to an accident. They eventually got here to spend the weekend with us. Luke just barely missed their arrival because he had to go to football practice. We picked him up afterwards and we all went out for dinner at ElRep with Matt eventually joining us as well. We enjoyed a pitcher of margaritas but we decided not to continue it home, despite the huge bottle of Petron that Dad brought us. :0)
We slept in on Saturday morning. Ann made eggs, bacon & sausage for breakfast and we watched a few movies. Matt had to work. Ann made a big lunch and we sat and talked for a few hours and watched Batman v Superman. Dad & I tried to fix Luke bike chain but it only pissed us off. Later, Ann made Pizza Hut for dinner & Megan came over for a while to hang out with Bu. We ended up just chilling out and watching movies the rest of the night and turned in early. Here are this week’s random pictures.

We got up on Sunday for Ann’s delicious biscuits and gravy for breakfast. We enjoyed a lazy morning before cleaning up and heading up to Zionsville for an impromptu Bryan family reunion. …Hats off to Katie & Ann for putting everything together so quickly. Everyone made it to the event: Vird & Belinda; Dena Marie & Zach; Sharon; Nate & Steph w/ Jaicie & Haleigh; Jake & Katie (of course) with Brody & Reece (she’s too cute!); and of course Dad, Lynn, and Ann & I and the kids. We had a big pitch-in and Jake grilled burgers & dogs out back. Afterward we played BINGO for lottery scratch-offs & cash – I won the big pot at the end!! Later we played an epic game of Knock-Out and got to meet their new dog, Lilly – a local rescue. She nearly “ate Charlie” at one point, according to Reese (but I hear it was the other way around!). Speaking of which, she is a little daredevil on her scooters! We eventually had to say goodbye and call it a day – it went very fast and before we knew it, it was bedtime for Gpa. It was great to see everyone – and I should have some really great pictures to share next week. It was so nice of Kate & Jake to allow us to celebrate their 12th anniversary with them on their special day. Dad & Lynn headed to bed early as they had to be up and out the door before dawn, headed back to the east coast. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week: Abby at work and with friends; Molly & Lola; more Bu & friends; Katie & kids; scenes from FLA; recent celebrity deaths – Pat Summitt (great basketball coach), Garry Marshall (extensive TV/movie producer/actor & Dennis Green (pro football coach); my favorite Red had a big week, tying the club record for consecutive games with a HR (5)!; Uncle Bob with Camille; Aunt Sharon with Angie; my favorite contemporary MLB player, Ken Griffey Jr is now in the HoF; new HW unveiled at San Diego Comic Con; Jeff Gordon is filling in for Dale Jr; the paltry attendance of the Brickyard side-by-side with this years’ Indy 500; Reds have won a few games lately; Kimmy & her boys camping with Aunt June; and Jaicie & Haleigh trying to catch bugs.

Next we have our Waybac section which has the penultimate batch of pix from our first six photo albums of our young family in the nineties as well as more from the batch of goodies from Gma & Gigi’s move. And finally we have our video section which includes one new family movie this week as well as a few from around the internet.

And that caps off this edition of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you again next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya, Mom.
Later, Scheu
