…Just a Little Rain…

It’s been a hot, wet week. The kids had their first full week of school. Matt had his last full week of work. Luke had his first football game and started fall basketball. Abby juggled school, work and sports. Ann continued to nurse her knees and did some scrapbooking. And I continued to exercise as much as possible and started scanning our next batch of old photos. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
It was back to school for Luke & Abby on Monday morning while Matt, Ann & I headed back to work. Luke enjoyed football practice – it was the first day of full pads / full contact. He was a little sore and whiney that night. Abby had soccer practice after school then went out over to Britney’s to do homework. Ann & I watched the Olympics and Luke went to bed early. After work, I walked the airport property and the college campus on a very hot day. Later, Matt & I moved furniture at Mom & Sandy’s where Gigi was more than a little anxious over losing her Crossfire key.

Abby was in early to Tuesday for Student Council. After school it was on to soccer practice and then Pirateers practice later that evening. She was pretty exhausted by the time she got home. Luke had football practice after school. Matt worked at Aspen Place. I walked a combo route of the airport property, the People Trail & the college campus on another 90 degree day. Tonight was the first time in a long while that I really missed our pool.
It was anther very hot & humid day at work for Ann & I. Matt had the day off. Abby had soccer practice then went out to study with Britney again. Luke had football practice after school. I walked in the rain for about 45 min until the lightning got too close and I had to turn back. I was a wet, sweaty mess by the time I got home. That shower never felt so good! Later, Matt & I helped Gma & Gigi move their furniture back after getting new carpet. We have lots of new social media pictures to share this week: Abby, Abby & Brit; Aunt Sally; Barn & Steph; Kimmy’s boys; the Guards; Daniel & Kels; Pat & wife; the Drakes; Scheu cousins & Uncle Chuck; Ky & the Colts Cheerleaders; the Drake boys; Katie & Jake’s kids; Barney’s oldest grandson; Molly still thinks she’s a cat; Aunt Karen’s granddaughter.

Thursday was a fast day at work. Abby had soccer and Pirateers practices and eventually went out once again to study with Britney until late. Matt enjoyed his final day off until he leaves for school. He had lunch with Gma, which I think is just very cool. I’m glad he still has such a good relationship with her. Later he went to Columbus for a doctor appointment on his knees. Thankfully no surgery yet but has some PT to do at home. I met up with Bryan after work and we drove to Connersville for Luke & Drew’s first football game of their 7th grade year. The boys looked great, dominating all three aspects of the game. They scored on each of their four drives and the defense got a goose egg and won going away, 32-0! Luke was one of the captains before the game. Luke was the starting fullback on offense, starting outside linebacker on defense and was the kicker on special teams. Luke got off to a strong start. Offensively: 4 rushes for 25 yards, scoring 4 points on 2-2 PATs, dragging guys draped on his back across the line both times. He had strong blocking out of the backfield and opened huge holes for his teammates. …Kudos to him for playing that role. He would’ve scored his first TD but was brought down at the 3 yard line by a vicious facemask that bent his knee awkwardly. Thank God he is still made of rubber. He was slow to get up but was able to shake it off and continue. He had another cool play where his teammate had been stopped and he came barreling in and pushed the pile forward another 10 yards! Defensively: 8 tackles, – 2 for a loss. He also had a fumble recovery. Special Teams: No PAT kicks but 5 kickoffs: 2 onside – 1 that went 32 yards (bouncing) and 1 that only went 9. After that, coach let him kick away – netting kicks of 28, 15 & 22. One kick went all the way down to the 15! We stuck around and taped the 8th grade boys as well and then gave the game tape to Coach Harris to put up on Hudl. We let the boys stay with us instead of riding home on the bus. We tried to stop at Hardees in Rushville for dinner but they refused to serve us despite being 10 minutes before closing. Instead, we came back to town and at Taco Bell, who was happy to have our service. It was so hot at the game that I actually got sunburned just sitting in the stands. Ann ended up coming late but enjoyed sweating with us in the stands. We got showers as soon as we got home and everyone went to bed.

On Friday, Ann went to late night scrapbooking after work at Mrs. B’s with Shawna. I walked over 5 miles after work and gaulded my thighs in the process. It was so hot out there; surely I lost a few pounds that night! Matt went back to work. Luke had football practice. Meanwhile, Abby went to soccer then out on a date until late. After we showered, Luke & I grabbed drive thru dinner then both fell asleep early in the wonderful A/C.
Luke & I were up early on Saturday morning. Luke had football practice while I de-weeded the driveway & sprayed roundup in all the cracks. I picked up Luke from the junior high and did spa day for Black Betty – oil change, carwash & gas fill-up. :0) Next, Ann & I went out to the Pirates Pitch to watch Abby’s varsity soccer scrimmage vs. Knightstown. Abby actually had a lot playing time and had an assist to Emma! Luke played with Luke H & Grayson on the practice field during the game. We came home and Luke & I mowed / trimmed the lawn in the rain. Ann went back to Mrs. B’s to do some more scrapbooking. Abby eventually came home for a nap then went in to work at BWR. Matt worked that day as well. He really enjoys working at the old folks’ home and plans to continue there during school, coming home one or two weekends each month. Luke went to Gma & Gigi’s for the afternoon to try & find the Crossfire key to no avail. It continued to rain harder and forced us to cancel our work at Mom & Sandy’s where we were supposed to pull & trim their front shrubs. Instead we stayed inside and watched a cool NASCAR race in OH in the rain. When Matt got home, we watched the Cowboys lose and the Colts win in their first preseason games. It stormed that evening and continued raining overnight.

We enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning. We eventually got up and got going on a rainy morning. It remained overcast all day and rained most of the day again. There were flood warnings all over the state. The back lot is a soupy mess and mud is now leeching in to our back yard – so glad the developer could dump all the dirt back there last week. Thanks. We did our weekly household chores and watched the Olympics. Team USA basketball doesn’t look like they’re as good as they’ve been in the past. Maybe it’s time to bring back the college kids now?? Later that evening, Luke had his first basketball practice.
Next we have our Waybac section which includes pictures mined from Gma & Gigi as well as Dee during her recent move. We lead off this week with some WTRE pictures, circa 1993, highlighting a trip to Branson, MO and also some classic photos of the Mom, Sandy & the Buchanans; then we fast forward to 2000 for some Dee/Grace pix – adoption, baptism and baby show; next we go to 2003 for a couple Christmas pix of our Owens nieces; then on to April, 2004 for some Easter pictures; July, 2004 for Gracie’s bday party at Maggie Moo’s; then some random 2004 pix – Gigi at the fair and drooling over the Crossfire; Megan with Gma & in her wagon and then Megan on a classic Christmas card in 2005.

And we end with our video section which includes four new home movies as well as several from around the internet.

And that does it for this week’s episode of the Scheu Family Blog. Thanks for keeping up with us this time out and we’ll catch up with you next time. Until then, have a good one. We miss ya Mom.
Later, Scheu
