I Wanted to be Twenty-One…It Seemed the Right Age for Havin’ Fun

What a great week it was for us…Luke had three basketball games, Abby had another dance competition, Matt turned 21, Ann took time off to be with the kids for Spring Break, I averaged a 5K on my walks this week, the weather took an upward turn allowing us to open up the house all weekend (March looks like it might go out like a lamb) and we got to spend some quality time with our friends…what a great week! Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
The first day of spring started off with strong t-storms on Monday. Thankfully it warmed up to nearly 70 in the late afternoon when the sun came out and dried up everything so I could enjoy my 3 mile walk after work. Matt started classes back up at U Indy. Abby & Luke enjoyed the start of the 2nd week of Spring Break. Abby had an eye appointment. Ann took day off to be with them. They ended up in Cincy where they went to a place called The Extreme Web. They were able to play inside during the day-long rain storm with go-karts, bowling, mini golf, laser tag & arcade games before going to Olive Garden for a late lunch and then shopping at Jungle Jims. I got some cool groceries, including some Hoboken Eddie’s Homegrown – my favorite since Bryan introduced me to it at Hinkle’s in Madison at 3 am! Bu went to hang out with friends that night then came home later with Trevin.
It was a foggy start to Tuesday on my way in to work. Ann was off again with the kids. Both Bu & Luke had dentist appointments. Much to our dismay, Luke had a good checkup and Abby had a cavity filled. Afterwards, Abs worked at BWR until late. Matt had classes till late afternoon. Luke vegged around the house the rest of the day. Ann & I drove to U Indy and picked up Matt to take him out for his 21st birthday! He chose Scotty’s Brewhouse in downtown Indy. Too bad he didn’t choose St. Elmo’s because Bon Jovi ended up eating there that night! It was a cool place though and we had a great time. We started with 3 Wise Men beer samplers then did Petron snakebites. We followed that with a combo shot recommended by Robby: Yägermeister with Rumple Minze – yum! We had another beer then I had an amazing Bloody Mary. After dinner, we wrapped it up with top-shelf Long Islands. Ann & I took him back to his apartment where his roommates and friends were planning to take him out. Here are a bunch of Matt pictures – his birthday party from last weekend, at Joel’s party a month or so ago and in Indy on his birthday night.

Ann & I took Wednesday off to recover. Luke & Bu continued to enjoy Spring Break. Abs was up early for breakfast with Trevin then worked at Wings & Rings till mid-afternoon. She came home only long enough to change clothes and was out the door again, headed to work at the dance studio. Later that night, Ann met up with her at Dixon for jazz class. Afterwards, Abby drug poor Trevin out to the new Beauty & the Beast movie.
Ann & I headed back to work on Thursday morning while the kids got to sleep in. Ann had a doctor appointment for her knees, where she got another shot. We hope it will bring her some relief. I got back out and walked another 3 miles after work. Luke was asked to play on an AAU team this weekend with his buddy Collin. So he took it upon himself and worked out at Y to get the rust knocked off his game. Bu & Ann returned to Dixon Dance for the last tap class before competition this weekend. That evening, Purdue faced a tough Kansas team in Sweet 16 play. The Boilers looked good in the 1st half but the Jayhawks made some amazing adjustments and absolutely whipped them in the 2nd half to end Purdue’s amazing year. The only question is how many of the boys will return to the team next year… Here are random pictures from this week.

Ann went with Shawna to their favorite scrapbook store in Brown County after work on Friday then drove over to Burney to scrap at the church. I had a long day, moving our Med Room and Nursing Station to new areas so renovations can commence on Monday. After being on my feet all day, I walked 4 miles on a gorgeous evening where temps were nearly 80! Luke & Bu visited Gma & Gigi on their final day of Spring Break. I met up with them at home and the three of us headed over to the Sunken Boat Bar for a cookout to celebrate Bryan’s birthday. The dinner was amazing (I had a delicious t-bone), the drinks were strong and the stogies were top notch. We sat out back, around the fire pit and laughed and laughed as we watched the Sweet 16 games. We loved the amazing finale to the FLA / WI game. Wow! We have lots of social media pictures to share this week: Bu & friends; various family and friends; misc memes and others random stuff; Chuck Barry died (see below for some great videos of the god father of rock); Purdue had a great season; and Chuck Barris (Gong Show) died this week.

I enjoyed sleeping in on Saturday morning. Ann was up early and headed back to Burney to scrapbook. Abby had an early meeting at work and later took the dogs out to the park for a fun afternoon. Ann & I took Luke to Noblesville for his first AAU basketball game at the Tipoff Classic tourney. He was joined by a couple kids from his school team plus a few from neighboring cities. The team is called IN-421. They had two games in pool play that day. In game one they faced Team Rise 2022 and lost 37-53. The game was actually closer than the numbers show. In game two they faced a very good team called the Michiana Dreamchasers. This game was never close and they lost again, 39-65. Luke was 1-2 from the floor with a handful of rebounds and a few turnovers against a pair of very talented teams. The game was very fast and pretty rough. We stopped for dinner at a local Mexican restaurant and drove home in a strong thunderstorm.

On Sunday morning, Luke went back up to Noblesville for tourney play with the Comers. In game one they faced BC Team Up and lost a heartbreaker 42-43. Unfortunately it was single elimination, so they were done for the day. Luke ended up going out to Collin’s house until early evening. Meanwhile, Ann & I picked up Trevin and took Abby to Cincinnati for her 2nd dance competition. This was again ShowStopper – this time at the Convention Center downtown (same place as last year). They again had videographers but no photographers, so I got to take my own photos. I took a ton so I hope a few turn out to be really good. The girls looked really good for this only being the fifth time they’ve actually danced it as a whole group! These girls are so active that it was simply impossible to get them all together in the same place. I thought they looked amazing as always, earning a platinum award (the first for the studio all weekend!). They were disappointed by only achieving a 3rd place overall, so they are motivated to do better at the next competition! We stopped at Lachey’s Bar for a late lunch afterward. We had a huge meal and a couple local brews. We were so full when we left. On the way to find a Graeter’s Ice Cream store, poor Trevin started puking. We think it must’ve been food poisoning after ordering his burger medium with an egg over easy on top. He got sick only moments after eating his meal and couldn’t finish it, which he said was unusual in and of itself. We drove home in the pouring rain and watched the big UNC v KY Elite 8 ball game. Ann went out and picked up Luke from the Comer’s house after we watched Kuyhlia at the Colts Cheerleader tryouts, which was broadcast online. Unfortunately she did not make the team this year. We are so sad for her because she works so hard at it; not sure what happened or if she’ll even try out again next year… We will have a ton of pictures from today’s dance next week when I have time to edit all of them. I missed a coaches meeting with Bryan for baseball today.
