Well it’s Over now you See…It’s the Last Time…

The signs of fall are all around us. The famers are in the fields, harvesting their crops. The leaves on the trees are all starting to turn and fall. The weather is getting cooler. The kids’ fall sports have ended. Many of our favorite TV shows are either ending (summer series) or returning. Even the harvest moon was this week. It was a slower time for the household, but we still had some adventures. Matt stayed up at school to focus on his studies, start his new job and lick his wounds. Abby played in the final soccer game of her high school career, turned her focus towards dance and then worked all weekend. Luke enjoyed a rare week off from sports, spending time with his friends and playing out in the woods, in his fort. Ann spent her work week in meetings and her down time nursing her ailing body but still managed to do a little scrapbooking. I got in over 18 miles of walking this week and did a little better with my diet as I continue to battle the bulge. Molly’s medicine seems to be working as she’s back to normal. The weather was all over the place again this week. And we had a couple of significant celebrity deaths week. Hello again and welcome back to the Scheu Family Blog.
We had a cool start to the week on Monday as we headed back to work and school. Luke had basketball practice then went to the woods for a few hours to hang out with his neighborhood buddies. Abby had soccer practice but her Pirateers practice was cancelled. She later worked at the dance studio then stayed afterward for her class with Kuyhlia. Ann & I both had a typically long Monday. I received my annual flu shot then walked a little over 3 miles around the airport property. It was a quiet night and we fell asleep early. Here are pictures from last week’s soccer game at Triton Central.

On Tuesday, Luke’s 8th grade football game was cancelled in Shelbyville so we took the forfeit to end the season at 8-2. Our 7th grade team travelled up to Shelby county to play in their final game. Luke and some of his buddies attended the game to support the younger Pirates. Unfortunately, they played Shelbyville’s 8th grade team that “didn’t exist” and ended up losing by 1 point. They did not win a game this year. I managed to walk a little over 3 miles after a fast day of work then Ann & I travelled to Lawrenceburg to watch Abby and the Lady Pirates play the host team in the first game of women’s soccer Sectionals. Abby did not start but did play about half the game. Mike did a good job of getting all the girls some playing time in what would turn out to be the final game of the year for the girls. It was no surprise that the girls were blown out of the game as this is a very good team. We didn’t score any points and lost 0-10. Abby did manage to get one last foul for me but didn’t get a yellow card! 😊 Trevin joined us to watch Abby play in the final game of her soccer career. There were lots of tears after the game and we ended up going across the street in to the historic part of town and ate dinner at Whiskey’s. On the way home, we were saddened to hear the news that Tom Petty had died of cardiac arrest. ☹

Gma took Luke to get his hair cut on Wednesday. Abby taught Mary the Pirateers dance then went to tap & jazz classes at Dixon. It stormed all day but the showers cleared up just in time for me to walk over 3 miles again after work. Ann cooked chili for tomorrow night’s football event as Bu had Kama & Trevin over to study and sample the taste testers.
Abby was up early and out the door on Thursday for Pirateers practice before school. She did homework all evening. I think it rained all day again but stopped just as I headed out to walk another 3 miles after a long day at work. Luke, Ann & I went to the junior high school that evening for the annual chili cookoff. We came home and watched American Horror Story and Channel Zero and then fell asleep on the couches.
Friday was much warmer and humid. The girls went in to work and school early so I ran Luke to school. It was a fast day at work then I walked about 5 miles afterwards. It felt good after I had a big breakfast and overate at the China Buffet with Justin at lunch. Ann went to the doctor to find out why her ankles are swelling. They did some tests but aren’t sure. He thinks it may be side effects of one of her meds. Her knees have been screaming all week as well. The shots she is receiving is supposed to last 6 weeks but she’s lucky to get six days. But this week, it has been the headaches which have impacted her the most. Abby & Trevin went with Britney & Alan to Fear Fest in Seymour and had a great time. Sadly, Luke & Jenna broke up that evening. He had Conner over to stay the night and Ann ordered Papa John’s for dinner. Trevin ended up spending the night. And were again shocked to hear that comedian Ralphie May passed away from cardiac arrest. Here are some random pictures from our recent adventures.

Matt started his new job on Saturday. He’s still He worked fewer hours and made more money – what a deal! Ann was up early to go scrapbooking with Shawna and friends in Lawrenceburg and was gone all day. Abby & Trevin got up and worked at Wings & Rings all day. I didn’t see Abby at all as I was in bed by the time she got back home, late that night. I got up and ran a few errands, including working on Gma’s computer. By the time I got back, the kids were at work and Conner had gone home. So, Luke & I got started on our normal routine. We worked around the house, including mowing the lawn. Next, we had lunch at the Bell, went HW hunting, practiced driving the truck then came home and took naps. Later, Luke went to the woods to work on his fort with his buddies and stayed out until dark. Trevin ended up staying the night again. And the Boilers won a thrilling game after a 90 minutes lightning delay. Luke & I had to take it old school by having to listen to the game on the internet since the network TV stopped showing the game due to the long delay. We missed the big Scheu family wedding (Nick & Connor tied the knot – congrats!). We had planned to have a soccer game today, but we instead played on Tuesday. Unfortunately, when we had to RSVP we had no idea when the game would be held. It would’ve been nice to see everybody, but hopefully we’ll be able to at least see some pictures of the event on social media…
We enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning. It was cooler and overcast when we woke up and it rained all day. We eventually got up and did our weekly household chores. Ann ran to the store and ended up cooking salmon, au gratin potatoes and succotash for dinner after a long series of naps. Abby and Trevin got up and worked another double shift all day at BWR. We enjoyed a quiet day of football. The 1-3 Colts somehow managed to make their game exciting despite playing an 0-4 team with an overtime victory. The Cowboys played the Packers in the afternoon game and despite some terrible officiating again, managed to look pretty good…but came up a little short, losing their second straight despite holding a lead late in the game. We watched some Red Zone, the NASCAR race in Charlotte (won by Truex), then flipped between the Sunday night game (Chiefs are the last undefeated team) and a little baseball – we got to see former Reds teammates Chapman and Bruce face each other (Chapman struck him out) in the 9th inning as the Yankees finally beat the Indians to survive and force a Game 4 with a 1-0 victory. We wrapped up the evening with Fear the Walking Dead (can’t believe they killed off Ofelia!!) and Talking Dead. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

Next up is our Waybac section which continues to include our next round of photo albums after the turn of the century during our first couple years at the Ryle house as well as a few goodies from Gma & Gigi’s closet. We lead off this week with a trio of pictures from the Greensburg 4th of July parade in the mid-eighties; then Gma on Main St on Christmas morning in December 1986; then we fast-forward to Matt’s last day of YMCA pre-school out at the city park in June 2001; Matt out at the Y playing t-ball at the “new” field in July 2001; next is Christmas at the Ryle home in December 2001; Matt playing basketball at the Y in December 2001; Matt & Abby playing a German instrument with Papaw Scheu at the Parkside Deli in June 2002; Phyllis & Dick’s retirement party in June 2002; Matt’s soccer camp at Washington Field in August 2002; Matt from our Easter picture session in April 2004; Abby’s Dixon Dance picture in June 2004…that was her favorite pose all year, if I remember correctly!
