Yeah Flood Water Keep a Rollin’

It’s been another challenging week at the Scheu abode. Matt had quiet week of student teaching at U Indy and was featured on their social media as the subject of a School of Education Tweet, which was really cool. Abby had another issue with her car we had to work through. She continued to dance and work outside of school. In fact, she took her dance career to the next level this week. Luke decided to join the track team and has decided not to run (despite being one of the fastest kids in school) again, instead focusing on field events again this year. Ann had another good week with her knees as she continued to move ever-closer to Prom night. I walked 16.5 miles in challenging weather this week and lost another couple pounds on my keto diet. We saw glimpses of spring this week, but we also saw a ton of rain and even some snow and ice. We had some of the worst flooding in this area in a few years. …Never a dull moment around here! Hello again and welcome to the latest edition of the Scheu Family Blog.

It was a cold, snowy start to the week on Monday morning. We had about two inches, here at home, but quite a bit less at work. By the time work ended, it had warmed into the 40s – enabling me to walk about 5K comfortably. Luke went to track practice instead of football. Ann & I came home early to get dressed up and take Abby to her Academic Honors Banquet. We enjoyed a nice meal before Bu received two awards – an Academic Honors and a Technical Honors medal – way to go, Bu! We are so very, very proud of her accomplishments. We sat in the back with the Hellmichs and Messers. It went pretty fast and then we got lots of pictures before going for ice cream and sodas that night.

On Tuesday, the snow had turned to rain overnight – bringing with it loud t-storms, which rolled through about 2 am, shaking and waking the whole house. It rained all day, dumping about 2” of rain and causing both flash flood warnings and then later flood warnings all over the area. We saw lots of high waters and they had to close Park Rd when the golf course flooded when the creek became a raging river. The temps climbed to near 70 and I walked another 5K after work, seeing only a few sprinkles while I was out there. Luke’s track practice was cancelled and so was football, so he enjoyed a quiet night. Abs drove to IUPUI to meet Kuyhlia at the final Colts Cheerleader workshop before tryouts start this weekend. Bu was one of the dancers featured on their Instagram page again. She made it back safely despite the weather and then went to Trevin’s house until GKW. Ann “made” Papa Johns for dinner. 😊

It really cooled down overnight and was downright cold on Wednesday morning. We woke up to 40 mph gusts and temps around freezing mark – brrr… Luke had a cold track practice (and was not happy about it). Abby went to Columbus and got her nails done after school then went on to jazz & tap dance practice at DDS. Ann held her next After Prom meeting and then went on to Dixon to do her dance mom thing on. Afterwards the girls went out for their annual dinner with the dancers and the moms before competitions start next week and then the revue ends the season. It was too damn cold to walk around the airport property after work, so I went to the mall and walked just under 5K. As promised, here are pictures from last weekend’s Easter dinner and Megan’s surprise bday party.

Thursday was a fast day. Luke attended a practice track meet. Abby & Molie went to Batesville to watch Trevin & Mary run track. They stopped at the coffee shop downtown but when they came out, they couldn’t get Tonya to start. Thanks to the Wests for their time and efforts in trying to get the car jumped as well as staying with the girls until I could get over to them. I was in the middle of walking about three miles on a cool afternoon. When we got back to town, I met up with Bryan at the Armory for the Babe Ruth draft. We decided to give it one more year of coaching. This will probably be our last, even though I think the boys will still have one more year of eligibility. I think we drafted a pretty good team. I will say we mostly drafted good parents and football players, LOL! Abby called me, saying they couldn’t get her car jumped, so I left the draft to go help Abby get roadside assistance. I missed the discussion about the possibility of combining the two teams and creating an “A” and “B” team, as the other towns in the league are doing. As it is, we have two pretty balanced teams, which should make us competitive with each other…but not so much when start playing the other teams. I’ll be interested to see where this discussion leads. I relieved Kristie at Ison’s Family Pizza, where the girls were waiting. As we had an hour to kill before the tow truck got there, I ordered dinner. They had a keto-compliant pizza with a cauliflower crust and a great side salad with meat. The girls had already eaten but did get a couple frozen yogurts while we waited. We nearly closed the place before the guy showed up and took Tonya to Jerry Adam’s shop, back in Greensburg.

It was another cold start on Friday morning, with snow on the vehicles. I was pleased to see it warmed nicely into the 60s…but by the time I got out to walk another 5K it was much cooler. The temps only continued to fall through the evening. I was hoping to walk a couple hours, but it was too damn cold, so I wrapped it up after an even 5K. It snowed again overnight. Luke had another night off and he had Luke H over to spend the night. Abby tried to get off work, but much like Easter, no one would work for her, so she worked until late at Wings & Rings. Ann made cheeseburgers for dinner and the boys ran around the neighborhood until they got too cold and played Fort Nite on their PS4s until late. Here are this week’s random pictures from our recent adventures.

We were up early on Saturday morning. Abby was the first one up and out the door. She headed up to Grand Park Sports Complex (where the Colts practice) for the 1st round of Colts Cheerleader tryouts. Big thanks to Gigi for letting her borrow the Escape while we got Tonya fixed. I ran out to Five Points to get a couple new tires on Black Betty, as she had worn out another pair on the rear. I picked up Ann so we could pick up Tonya from Jerry’s shop. When she nailed that curb a couple weeks ago, she also hit her rear tire pretty hard, apparently…as there was a broken belt bulging out the sidewall…so we ran her over to Five Points and got new tires on the Taurus as well. I ran Ann up to Westfield so she could be there with Abby when she got the results from the tryouts. It didn’t take long. Unfortunately, it was a no this year. We are still proud of her for putting herself out there and going for it. Truly, it was likely a blessing in disguise as the finals are next weekend and so is her first dance competition. She and her team have been working hard for this for over the last 6 months. …So, we just chocked it up to a learning experience and now, if she chooses to do it again next year, she knows what to expect. When I got back to town, I picked up Luke and we got the oil changed in Black Betty. Afterward, we gave her a bath, grabbed some lunch at the border and then went shopping. Luke drove us around town and did a great job! The girls stopped for lunch then came home and got Sandy’s car washed and gassed up before returning it. Abs brought Trevin over to visit then they went out for the night, both having a rare Saturday night off from work.

We finally enjoyed sleeping in on Sunday morning. We eventually got up and did our weekly household chores. Abby had to work a double at BWR again. It was a quiet day, filled with DVR’ed shows (including three races and getting caught up on American Idol), leftovers and a couple naps. Ann made us a keto-compliant dinner of cheesy bacon spaghetti squash that was out of this world! We wound down the day in typical style, wrapping up the evening with Shamar Moore’s SWAT and of course the next episode of The Walking Dead / Talking Dead before calling it a night. We have lots of social media pictures to share this week.

Next, we have our Waybac segment, which continues to feature the last of our latest round of photo albums. We lead off this week in Florida during May, 2002 – we begin at the Sand Pebble beach with the lovely Gulf in the background, then we go poolside at the Pebble and then move on to Walt Disney World – what a great vacation that was…then we head to December 2002 – first we have the Bryan family Christmas (at Vird & Belinda’s in Indy) , then Christmas morning (waking up with Mom & Dad), then Dee & Chad’s birthday party (at the Main St house), then back to Gma & Gigi’s house on Christmas Eve, and finally Cookies with Santa in Columbus; and then we wrap things up on New Year’s Day in January 2003.
